Hey pandas! So last week was Thanksgiving here in the US, and while we thought we had everything planned out so that we would still be on schedule, life came up the only night we could record before holiday travel started. Since we wouldn’t want to miss a week, here is the audio of the live show we did at Acadecon, in panda suits! Patreons already have access to the video to see this, but we’ll be releasing the video to the public also sometime this month. We did a question round up on some things that had been hanging around that we didn’t think we could fill a whole show with, messed up a lot, and this my friends…this is what it sounds like before I put all that stuff at the end.

Senda and Phil show us how they handle leveling up characters mid session! It’s not something we’ve done a lot but we tackle it anyway. Why would you plan to level up in the middle of a game session? If you’re going to, what are the best ways to do it without interrupting the flow of the game itself? In more news, I can’t remember the words to the song, we sing a couple extras, and we learn Phil’s college nick name.

We stalked another game designer! This time we found Strix, on third of the magical matrix behind the current Kickstarter Bluebeard’s Bride. Strix does all the things on the internet and studies games as way more than a hobby. She joins us to talk about Bluebeard’s Bride both as a fairy tale and a game of capital H Horror. We also confused her a lot y singing our opening and closing songs on mic. We gotta get better at not weirding people out, you guys.
Bluebeard’s Bride is on kickstarter until 11/20 and is already way past funded: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1921129910/bluebeards-bride?ref=nav_search

Hello Gnomes and fans of gnomes. This is episode numero uno of the GNOMECAST, where gnomes talk about gnomes and try to avoid getting thrown in the pot for other gnomes to eat. I, your humble host Chris, has “recruited” fellow gnomes Phil & Senda to join me on this inaugural episode. Hopefully we avoid the pot.
Today we’re talking about Approaches to Continuity by John Fredricks. Check out the original link just before you read this.
The Gnomecast is a joint effort of Misdirected Mark Productions and The Gnome Stew.

Show us how you flip your one shots in to campaigns! Phil and Senda talk about what happens when you decide to turn your one shot in to a campaign, and what pieces you will need to consider in making the change. Sometimes you never planned to makes this any longer than one game, and sometimes it was like a test run, so we approach this topic from both perspectives. We make promises about future Mon Cal episodes.

Hey Folks. This week we start with some stuff about us and the network, break down what a setting is from our perspective in the Workshop, go into the social media of it all and hear some interesting things done with WoD games, and finish up with some podcasts and silliness.

Show us how you prep for short one shots and….normal one shots? Senda and Phil field a prep and length question about running 1-2 hour one shots vs. more standard 3-4 hour one shots. Phil wears a hoodie and does strange things that crack Senda up with the hood. I have a bad feeling about this. They managed to keep the episode *almost* short, but not the outtakes! Patrons, check out the patron posts on patreon.com/mmp for the extras!

Phil and Senda sit down with game designer Grant Howitt (One Last Job, Unbound, Royal Blood, Warrior Poet, etc. etc. etc.) to pick his brain on some opinions about game design for one shots vs. campaigns.

Show us your favorite ways to use leading and open questions! Phil and Senda sit down to talk about the difference between the two and do a little workshopping on question construction. Thanks to Rich for the questions about…questions….
Due to some technical difficulties this episode was recorded extraordinarily late, which means the outtakes were prolific. Patrons can access the rest of the outtakes that didn’t fit on the MMP Patreon page: patreon.com/mmp!

Show us how you avoid hitting GM burn out! Phil and Senda talk about the different ways we tend to burn out running one shots vs. campaigns, some common strategies to avoid hitting burn out, and quick advice on what to do if you are burned out. The Spoon Theory in terms of emotional energy comes up a lot, so here’s a link in case you’re unfamiliar with it:
Don’t miss a very special wave form theatre starring Mr. Phil V., only in our outtakes!
Look, Robot — Look, we’ll just give you the complete list of all Grant Howitt’s games. Okay? Okay. Good. There are many I haven’t even played yet but of course I want to. Desperately. Use some of these one shots to combat burn out. Especially the ones that should only be played while drinking.

Show us how you handle prepped NPCs vs. on the fly NPCs! Phil and Senda wrangle some thoughts on how to create characters with appropriate depth in both cases, some useful tools and approaches to creating on the fly, and things to consider when you’re planning in advance. Phil threatens to do the show with no outtakes to prove a point and it’s terrible and Senda talks him out of it.
