Interesting topic. There’s a lot of improv tools that are applicable in roleplaying (some of the basics are covered in Play Unsafe, which was written by an actor and roleplayer). I also agree that improv has stuff it can learn from roleplaying, especially in providing different structures to assist long-form improv. Fiasco has often been used as a long-form structure, Ribbon Drive has been used a couple of times, I myself directed an improvised long-form show based on another (unpublished) game. Another roleplayer I know, used rpg design thinking in creating a game for a very specific part of a Sherlock Holmes improvised show to enable him to ‘solve’ the mystery.
