    Thanks for weighing in on my XP question.

    Not that there’s any right answer here, but I couldn’t put my finger on something that bothers me about story-based leveling until I just listened to Shawn’s 3/6/2020 interview with Scott Fitzgerald Gray and they were talking about the importance of making the characters the center of the story.

    In story-based leveling, advancement only happens when predefined story-based milestones are reached, which eliminates the possibility of advancement from character-based goals that DMs insert into the story, often for the purpose of engaging characters and centering the story around them.

    This is one of the main reasons I prefer using standard and milestone XP (not leveling), but again, there’s no right way to play in this regard. Thanks again. (I’ve enjoyed 161 episodes.)

Welcome to THAC0 . . . with Advantage! We’re two friends that have been playing D&D a long time. While we both love lots of other RPGs, D&D still acts first in all of our rounds of gaming. Imagine a table full of gamers. Each one of them has a character with multiple options available to them.
