Special Announcement: GEM Fund-matching Drive for the 2019 IGDN Metatopia Sponsorship [UPDATE: Drive is over!]

  • News

Update: Thanks to everyone who donated, we were able to send in a donation of $250 to the sponsorship fund! We had a three-way tie for the top donor spot, so congratulations to Egg Embry, Kevin Lovecraft, and the John and Debbie O’Brien team. Rewards to all donors will be going out soon!

Gnome Stew, Encoded Designs, and Misdirected Mark Productions (together a collective we call “GEM”) are excited to announce a fund-matching drive for the 2019 IGDN Metatopia Sponsorship! Starting today, we will match donations made to the Sponsorship’s fundraiser up to a total of $250! Let us know when you donate, and not only will your donation have double the impact to the sponsorship fund, you’ll also get yourself some cool rewards. Meeting our goal means that together we’ll have raised enough money for one designer’s complete travel expenses!

Metatopia is the world’s premiere indie tabletop roleplaying game design convention, and the Indie Game Developer Network (IGDN) manages the sponsorship fund to send first-time attendees to the convention to support the participation of designers from marginalized communities in the indie tabletop industry. Metatopia 2019 takes place November 7-10 in Morristown, NJ, and the 2019 IGDN Metatopia Sponsorship team is being led by 2017 sponsorship recipient Camdon Wright, current Gnome Stew Staff Gnome and former host of the Misdirected Mark podcast!

Both Metatopia and the IGDN Metatopia Sponsorship are near and dear to the hearts of many of us at GEM. We’re proud to be supporters of this excellent cause, and we hope you’ll join us!

If you could benefit from this sponsorship, please don’t hesitate to apply by filling out the form here. If you know people who could benefit from this sponsorship, spread the word and encourage them to apply! If you would like to donate to the fund, check out their fundraising campaign here. Once you donate, read on for how to double your dollars and get your rewards!

    • Take a screenshot or otherwise document your donation and email the image as a link or attachment to contact@misdirectedmark.com with the subject “2019 Metatopia Sponsorship fund-matching – [YOUR NAME]”
    • Donations of $5 or more made on July 29th, 2019 and after are eligible for the fund-matching drive until the total of matched funds reaches $250.
    • All donations eligible for matching entitle the donor to a 10% discount coupon for digital copies of the hit Engine Publishing titles Masks: 1,000 Memorable NPCs for Any Roleplaying Game and Eureka: 501 Adventure Plots to Inspire Game Masters.
    • The matched donor with the highest amount donated will received a FREE digital copy of ANY one book from the Encoded Designs catalog, including Engine Publishing titles!
  • All prizes will be awarded via email after the drive has completed.

Thank you for helping make more indie game designers’ dreams come true!

Thac0 with Advantage 41. Who Goes First? Rolling for Initiative

Welcome to THAC0 . . . with Advantage! We’re two friends that have been playing D&D a long time. While we both love lots of other RPGs, D&D still acts first in all of our rounds of gaming. Imagine a table full of gamers. Each one of them has a character with multiple options available to them. Now think of all of those characters in the same scene with a giants, a dragon, and a band of ogres. How do you keep all of those characters straight and make sure that everyone gets to take their turn? We roll for initiative, and let the dice tell us who gets to take what turn and when. We’ll explore how 5e D&D works, as well as variations that exist in the game.

MMPlays 49 – Prospocalypse Now Part 1 (CotS AP)

It's part one of the final story, PROSPOCALYPSE NOW. Gunny, Ti, and Silas are dealing with the fall out from prom and begin learning about what they need to do to stop the Prospocalypse.
