Hey folks. This episode we converse with Tim Jones, Encoded Designs graphic designer, about layout and graphic design and how he applies his skills and eye to layout in RPGs. Enjoy, think about backing us on Patreon and we’ll be back next week to talk about Trappings and how they affect setting in RPGs.

13:01 – Backroom. Layout in RPGs
Our group has just started playing a game of Invisible Sun, and man have we had some problems parsing it. It’s not so much the twee writing… and the layout looks good, presentation of ‘important’ information seems misplaced or lacking.
It took way more time than needed for us to know for sure that we had selected all the things we needed for character creation. A proper summary there (eg. “Choose Heart, Choose Heart skills. Set base stat pools as decided by Heart-type, add +6 to those pools as you choose”), as well as a walkthrough/example of character creation would have been bloody useful.
Others I’ve shown the text to have the same problem. >_<
