Some game designers have epic stories of their own. Odyssey’s which range decades and cross many games, genre’s and companies. Today we have one such person. From Iron Crown Enterprises to TSR, then WotC, then his own Malhavoc Press, back to WotC, then a brief stint creating video content with geek seekers, before taking Kickstarter and the Gameosphere by storm with Numenera, then the Strange, No Thank You Evil, the Worlds of the Cypher System, and now Invisible Sun. He even managed to fit in a faux feud with the Dungeon Bastard. This man, who has lived the story which I’ve only barely hinted at, is Monte Cook. Enjoy an hour with Monte in this episode of the Lounge.

For this week’s show, Karol leads off a conversation about the trends and outlook of crowd-funding for videogames. In particular, the recent bump in heavily funded projects for classic 3D adventure games may signal a new hope for a forgotten genre. Tim reflects on the good, the bad and the ugly of how investment by audiences can effect the relationship between fans and creators. Examples span the industry, from racing games to pinball machines.
