Let’s get down with the raging and some of the other places things are happening in D&D. That’s right, we’re expanding our reach of What’s New in D&D to other places and spaces plus we groove on the newest UA on our favorite ragers, the Barbarian.

Getting down in a car on the Gamehole.. That’s me and Shawn this week and the audio is not as good as you’ve come to expect from us but I wanted to get something out rather than nothing. That means the groove is a little more industrial than I prefer. Enjoy and we’ll talk to you next week sounding like our usual selves.

Let’s get down with what the WotC folks think is the new way to make situations to mess up your players and get down with some monsters and foes. We also hit up a little of what’s new and then get into our personal Grab Bag tips for things we do in games.

Advantage to Insight and Down with D&D Presents: Dark Sun Trivia feat. Teos Abadia and Robert Adducci
It is the 25th anniversary of Dark Sun! To celebrate, we pitted gladiators Teos Abadia and Robert Adducci to a head-to-head arena match to the death! No? Okay, the lawyers say that we are not covered for that–instead, we will have them battle in a trivia contest! The winner receives bragging rights over the loser’s still-breathing Twitter account! All this on a special joint episode of Advantage to Insight and Down with D&D! Happy anniversary Dark Sun!

Get Down, or maybe it’s get up. Anyway things are looking up for the giants as we raise the rocks on a Great Upheaval and see what’s inside chapter one of Storm Kings Thunder. We also look at what was lurking inside the most recent issue of Dragon +. Hope you enjoy and keep on getting down with D&D.

Hey folks. It’s time to get down with Acquisitions Incorporated and the GIANTS in the sky…or at least on the clouds. We also touch on what’s new in D&D. Get down and feel the bass, or is that the approaching of giants?

Lets get down with some more sentiment. It’s what does D&D mean to you this time as we go to the community with Randy Farmer among others, and outside of it to some others who work on and around D&D. We have audio from James Intercaso, Phil Vecchione, and Greg Marks. We have words from Mike Mearls and Chris Sims, and we hear Shawn Merwin’s thoughts on D&D and what it means to him. Get Down.
Jul 23 2016
Let’s get down and we’re doing it without the Mad Wizard Merwin. That’s right. I went to my very deep bench to grab some friends to talk about what D&D means to them. I have Mark, Tom, and Brett to help me out, get down, and spin some wonderful tales about family and gaming. So get in and get down and lets go kill some monsters.

Dungeons & Dragons history is full of modifications, hacks, and house rules. We dig into the rules we use in our games and see what other games have rules we can comment on! All this and much more–this week on Advantage to Insight!
Why this topic:
Do house rules help your game or do they turn into another game entirely?
– How many hacks and house rules until it is no longer D&D?
– Is your game recognizable as D&D? Will an outsider be able to play?
– Are these house rules required or is it just easier?
– Rules inform play, experience
– 2+ years, 200,000+ people playtest
– why do them? More fun, more easy, or more lazy?
– ignore rules?
– milestone: theory v practice
– little “allowances” (potion as bonus action in a tight spot, spell being used a bit outside the rules due to creativity, Bard bongo drumming away rats)
– bard or cleric effects (if the DM calls the roll too quickly)
– Critical Role houserules
– Spell components/food/water
– investigations, skill proficiency = automatic clue
– fail forward (with consequences)
– Inspiration (advantage vs. re-roll)
– level by XP vs. milestone
– Help action

Hey Folks. This is the first episode of Advantage to Insight, a D&D podcast by @Visionary. You can find more of their content by following this web link. Feel free to let us know what you think of the show.
“This is Advantage to Insight! Where we roll two d20s and…”
“…we immediately forget our Wisdom modifier!
“Welcome to the show where we talk about Dungeons & Dragons until we get completely off topic!”
“My name’s Wayne.”
“And I’m Alex.”
Why?: hard to find the right balance of prep and unused prep
- module or open world?
- if module, repercussion ready for straying too far.
- Some NPCs sketched out
- Where are they likely to go
- Ideas for maps, but we both tend to map as we go
- will they ever go back?
What are you preparing?
Prep which layer of game
- Setting (home brew or established)
- Campaign (module or no)
- Story Arc (chapter)
- How comfortable are you with prep
Prep vs improv
Thank you Chris of Misdirected Mark
